Made in Tyrol: Quality Sledges since 1886

Our Tyrolean family company has produced quality toboggans and sledges for families, as well as enthusiastic leisure-time and racing tobogganers for more than 130 years.

In 1886, Alois Kathrein founded a wainwright’s shop. Besides manufacturing wheels and tool handles, it also produced hay-transport sledges. In those days, sledges were primarily used as a means of transport to descend from a mountain into a valley. Since then, much has changed. Over the years, tobogganing has become increasingly popular as a leisure-time activity. For this reason, Kathrein has completely specialized in manufacturing quality toboggans and sledges.

In Prutz (Tyrolean Oberland), our ten tobogganing experts produce carefully hand-crafted sledges. Combining traditional craftsmanship with the most modern manufacturing technology and decades of experience in tobogganing building, we are able to deliver high-quality sledges at a great price-performance ratio.

In 2008, our steerable models were proudly awarded the quality sledge seal of the Austrian Luge Association.

Your satisfaction is very important to us – and it is also our heart’s desire to protect our nature. Therefore, our sledges are made from massive Austrian ash wood sourced from sustainable forests and are coated with water-based paints only.

A sledge for the family, touring, rental or racing – whichever you decide upon: Kathrein Rodel stands for safe and robust sledges with excellent running and steering properties. And, of course, for fun-packed tobogganing pleasure.

Sustainability

In addition to the use of sustainable raw materials from the region, the majority of our energy is generated by our own photovoltaic system. Here we sustainably generate 140 kWp of electricity from solar energy for the production of our toboggans. This investment is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
