How to ride your sledge: It’s that easy

  • Riding straight: You sit comfortably on the textile seat of the sled and stretch your legs out in front of you – always in the direction of travel. The legs are always on the outside next to the wooden runners (ready to brake).
  • Braking: You place both feet flat on the ground just outside the wooden runners.

You can also lift the sled a little at the front using the bars.

Security first

To enjoy safe tobogganing pleasure for yourself and others, please observe the following safety tips:

  • Wear sufficient safety equipment: sturdy footwear, helmet, ski goggles, gloves and winter-proof clothing.
  • Adjust your tobogganing speed to your skills and the prevailing conditions on the run.
  • Please keep the local conditions of the course in mind.
  • Show consideration for others.
  • Steering: You shift your weight onto the corresponding runner and pull on the steering strap.

Before the curve: Control your speed by braking and approach the curve from the outside.

During the curve: When turning left, use your right hand to pull the left runner up a little on the steering strap. When doing this, lift your left leg and press your right leg against the outside of the right runner.

When turning tight, you can also stretch your free arm backwards and grab the snow. Turning right works in exactly the opposite way. Extreme steering maneuvers are also possible with this technique. When turning easy, it is enough to lift one knee and shift your weight.

How to best care for your sledge

  • After every tobogganing session, always rub the steel blade dry and thoroughly wax it (with standard liquid wax or grip wax). This avoids the build-up of rust and improves the anti-frictional properties of your sledge.
  • The screws and steel blades need to be occasionally tightened.
  • Scratched and very rusty blades can be grinded using grinding paper with 60 – 100 grain size. Always grind in the longitudinal direction of the blades, and finish with polishing and buffing the blade. After grinding, thoroughly clean and wax the steel blades.

How to best store your sledge

Do not expose your sledge to excessive heat (e.g. heating rooms, heaters) or direct sunlight, if possible. Ideally, store it in dry rooms without placing any weight on it.
